US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that the administration will abide by the law passed by Congress on disclosing aspects of the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

And Sullivan indicated - in a television interview on Friday - that this law requires the administration to issue an unclassified copy of the Accountability and Responsibility Report for the Khashoggi murder, which he described as brutal and horrific.

He pointed out that it will not be long before the report is prepared and sent to Congress, accompanied by additional answers on how to ensure accountability for this crime.

Summary and forecast

The "Washington Post" newspaper has said that in the next few days, the administration of US President Joe Biden will publish an intelligence report on the role of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the killing of Khashoggi.

The newspaper quoted well-informed sources that the report is an unclassified summary of intelligence findings regarding Khashoggi's killing, and indicated that its publication may make the atmosphere more charged between the Biden administration and Riyadh.

The newspaper reported that the Biden administration asked a New York court to extend the deadline until next month in order to declassify all records of Khashoggi's murder and the person responsible for his murder, and the CIA report on the incident.

The new director of US National Intelligence - Avril Haines - had pledged before Congress to abide by the law completely, revealing to lawmakers the assessment of the intelligence community about who was behind Khashoggi's murder inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018.
