Washington has ruled out taking additional steps within its diplomatic approach to the Iranian nuclear program.

While Tehran called for an immediate lifting of the sanctions imposed on it, Tel Aviv spoke of difficult options to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

On Friday, White House spokeswoman Jane Saki said to Al Jazeera that the United States will not take further steps to return to the negotiating table with Iran after the steps it took Thursday, including withdrawing the request to impose UN sanctions on Tehran and easing restrictions on the movement of Iranian diplomats in New York.

Sacchi added that there are no plans to lift sanctions on Iran before a dialogue with Europe on the nuclear program.

The spokeswoman had said that her country had accepted an offer made by the European Union to mediate on the Iranian nuclear file.

For his part, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that diplomacy should be part of efforts to solve the problem with Iran, but he made clear that it is important first to sit at the negotiating table.

He added, in an interview with CNN, that President Joe Biden requested approval of the European Union’s invitation to a meeting to start discussions on this.

Sullivan demanded that Iran make a clear decision that it is ready to take steps to reassure the world, and prove that its program is for peaceful purposes only.

The statements of the White House spokeswoman and the National Security Adviser came while Biden indicated - yesterday, Friday in his speech to the Munich Security Conference - that his country intends to engage in the talks of the "5 + 1" group on Iran's nuclear program, calling at the same time to confront what he described as Iran's actions. Destabilizing Middle East.

Simultaneously, State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Washington will continue to persuade other countries not to sell weapons to Iran, noting that the request made by the Donald Trump administration to the United Nations to re-impose UN sanctions on Iran, which the Biden administration withdrew, was restricting freedom The new administration is dealing with the Iranian file diplomatically, through the UN Security Council.

A US official said Thursday that there are opportunities - for the first time in years - to end the policy of maximum pressure and return to diplomacy with Iran, while statements by US officials indicate that the Biden administration is seeking to develop the current nuclear deal.

Informal meeting

The recent US statements come while indications are concurrent that the Biden administration has adopted an approach to dealing with the Iranian file, in contrast to the approach adopted by the previous administration.

A European official said that the European Union is working to organize an informal meeting with all parties to the Iranian nuclear deal, and the United States.

For its part, the German Foreign Ministry announced that the European Union foreign ministers will discuss the Iran file during their meeting in Brussels next Monday.

A German government spokesman said it was important for Iran to take advantage of diplomacy.

In the context, Britain stressed - yesterday, Friday - that Iran must return to adhering to the 2015 nuclear agreement, adding that the West should stop sending signals that it is ready to overlook Tehran’s violations, indicating that the latter has reduced its commitment stemming from the nuclear deal, and hinted at it. Abandoning the Additional Protocol for Monitoring its Nuclear Activities.

On Thursday, France, Britain, Germany and the United States warned Iran of "dangerous" repercussions if it continued to violate its obligations, stressing the need for it to return to full compliance with the terms of the nuclear agreement from which the Trump administration withdrew in 2018.

Lift penalties

On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called on Washington to immediately lift all sanctions imposed by the Trump administration.

Earlier, Zarif expressed his country's willingness to backtrack on all its steps if Washington lifted its sanctions without conditions and in practice.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh described the US measures - including the withdrawal of the request to re-impose UN sanctions on Tehran - as symbolic and good, but said that Washington should take practical measures to revive the "5 + 1" group.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had previously stressed the lifting of sanctions first, while Iranian Leader Ali Khamenei called on the Biden administration to act instead of words.

Meanwhile, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi said that he will travel to Tehran today, Saturday, to meet with senior Iranian officials, to find a mutually acceptable solution with Iranian law so that the IAEA can continue its basic verification activities in Iran.

Grossi added - in a tweet on Twitter - that he is looking forward to the success that will be in everyone's interest.

Israel's position

In response to the positive US shift towards Tehran, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement saying that Israel is committed to its commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and that its position on the nuclear deal has not changed.

The statement added that returning to the nuclear agreement with Iran will pave the way for it to acquire a nuclear arsenal, noting that Israel is conducting an ongoing dialogue in this regard with the US administration.

For his part, Danny Danon, the former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations and head of the international branch of the Likud party, warned that Tel Aviv will consider a set of difficult decisions towards Iran, if US President Joe Biden chooses to return to the nuclear deal.

In statements to the American magazine Newsweek, Danon said that the situation has worsened in the past five years, and that Iran today is not what it was in 2016.

Danon expressed regret that the Iranians were becoming more advanced, as he put it.

He added that if the United States decided to return to the nuclear agreement in its current form, Israel would have to return its calculations regarding the Iranian nuclear race.
