Leipzig (dpa / sn) - Seven months before the federal election on September 26th, preparations for voting are already underway in Saxony's municipalities.

The Saxon Ministry of the Interior announced whether and how the corona pandemic will affect the election cannot yet be said.

The corona situation in autumn is simply not foreseeable.

At least the city of Leipzig is preparing for the fact that more people will use the option to vote by post.

"We are assuming a significantly higher number of postal votes compared to the last federal election," said district election officer Christian Schmitt.

“This follows the general trend towards postal voting.

We also assume that voting behavior will adapt accordingly in the course of the corona pandemic. "

Because of the pandemic, it has already been decided to move the counting of the postal votes to an exhibition hall on the Leipzig agra site.

Hygiene requirements could be met there.

It is still open whether there will be enough election workers.

The municipalities are responsible for appointing the electoral boards.

If you want to get involved, you can count on a small remuneration: According to the ministry, there is a refreshment allowance of 35 euros for the chairman of the electoral board, and 25 euros for the deputy and the assessors.

Travel expenses are also reimbursed.

The amount of refreshment money is unchanged from the previous federal election in 2017.
