Erfurt (dpa / th) - Plans of the state government to shorten the closed season when hunting roe deer are also controversial among the hunters.

The ecological hunting association of Thuringia contradicted the criticism of the project expressed by the state hunting association.

By bringing the hunting season forward, no hunter will be forced to kill the animals earlier than before, the association announced on Saturday.

"However, the earlier hunting season makes sense for all those hunters who hunt in forest areas and on the new damaged areas, as the game is very active in April and therefore there is a higher chance of shooting it."

The hunt becomes more effective, which ultimately leads to more rest during the year.

According to a draft ordinance by the Ministry of Forestry, roe deer hunting in Thuringia should start on March 31 of each year.

So far, the animals in Thuringia can only be hunted from the beginning of May.

The opposition parties of the CDU and AfD criticize the plans.

The State Hunting Association of Thuringia also rejects the project: The roe deer need the spring to build up energy reserves.

By contrast, the Ministry of Forestry promises to reduce the damage caused by browsing in the forest by hunting roebuck and deer in the past.

"In the mammoth task of rebuilding our forests and making them fit for the future, the local actors - and this includes the hunters - must be given every opportunity to achieve this goal," said the ecological hunting club.

He assumes that the measure will scare away the game from the focus areas of the forest conversion and that the search for forage will continue in less sensitive areas.

However, the ecological hunters insist on a comprehensive revision of the Thuringian hunting season regulation.

At the moment, the hunting seasons were mainly based on opportunities to shoot trophies.

Roebucks are only allowed to be hunted individually until mid-October, when they started shedding their horns.

Female roe deer and fawns, on the other hand, are likely to be shot until mid-January.
