February 20, 2021 The Prefecture of L'Aquila informs that in the morning the last body of the four hikers missing on Monte Velino was recovered by rescuers.

The discovery concludes the activities in the area carried out incessantly since January 24, the day of the tragic accident.



The hiker found is Gianmarco Degni, 26, son of the owner of a sports shop in Avezzano, boyfriend of Valeria Mella, 25, whose body was recovered yesterday together with those of Tonino Durante, owner of a knife shop. in Piazza Torlonia in Avezzano, 60, and Gian Mauro Frabotta, 33, the son of the owners of a well-known delicatessen also in Avezzano.



The bodies of the 4 hikers were found by the teams of the Alpine Rescue, the Carabinieri, the Guardia di Finanza, the Moena Police, the Fire Brigade and the Ninth Alpine Regiment of L'Aquila.



Helping the rescuers, who climbed up in the Valle Majelama area, under the Colle del Bicchero, at an altitude of about 1,800 meters, was also the nose of two dogs of the Bologna Carabinieri canine unit, trained to find the bodies, arrived on Thursday afternoon in Forme (L'Aquila).
