Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Can two alleged drug dealers from Magdeburg be negotiated on the basis of hacked chat logs?

The second day of the trial of drug trafficking on a large scale on Friday at the Magdeburg Regional Court revolved around this question.

The two defendants, aged 37 and 45, are said to have dealt drugs for months and each made profits of over 300,000 euros, according to the prosecutor's office.

The French police collected the knowledge.

It had infiltrated the Encrochat provider.

By reading the messages, numerous users across Europe were identified who were doing criminal business with the crypto cell phones - above all, drug trafficking and untaxed cigarettes.

The two defendants were also targeted by the investigators.

The defense argued on Friday that French police had accessed cell phones belonging to users outside of France, which is illegal.

The evidence is part of a major data protection scandal and therefore not usable.

A comprehensive inspection of the investigation files is also not possible for the defense.

The Magdeburg Regional Court under the presiding judge Claudia Methling rejected the suspension of the proceedings that had been requested.

The defendants themselves did not comment, the main hearing continued with the questioning of an investigator from the main customs office in Hanover.

As an investigation group leader, he came across the two Magdeburgers in the course of another proceeding in connection with the trade in untaxed cigarettes.

The chat logs provided ample evidence that both had been drug dealers on a large scale.
