Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Conferences, plays, concerts, exhibitions and educational projects: Saxony-Anhalt is participating in the festival year “1700 years of Jewish life in Germany”, which begins this Sunday with a ceremony in Cologne.

The State Chancellery announced on Friday in Magdeburg that a number of clubs, associations, communities, initiatives and public institutions are actively involved in the festive year.

In the fall, Jewish life in all its diversity was to be presented at the first nationwide Jewish Culture Days.

In addition, the festival year association offers workshops for schools and a nationwide campaign for the Jewish Tabernacles Festival in September.

Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) said: "I welcome the numerous projects that make Jewish life in its various forms more visible in the course of the festival year in Saxony-Anhalt, and I hope that there will be many more over the course of the year."
