As SVT previously reported, the friends of Princess Latifa Al Maktoum have feared the worst and appealed to the UN to step in.

That after the secret videos that the daughter of the emir of Dubai sent to her friends ceased, and she in a published video told about how she had been locked up in the home and beaten after an escape attempt.

Strikes back against information

In a statement, the royal family now says that the information that Latifa Al Maktoum is being held captive and fears for her life is incorrect, and that the princess will return to a life in public at an appropriate time, reports the BBC.

"In response to the media coverage of Princess Latifa, we would like to thank those who have expressed concern for her well - being, despite the fact that the report does not really reflect the actual situation," the royal family wrote in the statement.

Requirements from the UN

The UN has previously announced that it will question the authorities in the United Arab Emirates about the princess and, according to Sky news earlier on Friday, also demanded proof that Latifa Al Maktoum is still alive.

The royal family's statement, made via the United Arab Emirates' embassy in London, however, did not include videos or photos of the princess.
