Hanau / Mönchengladbach (dpa) - On the sidelines of a memorial event for the victims of the racist attack in Hanau a year ago, a man in Mönchengladbach showed the Hitler salute to the participants.

Officials intervened, the police said after the incident on Friday afternoon.

The 27-year-old passerby reportedly offered resistance when his personal details were to be recorded.

He received a criminal complaint.

Around 100 people took part in the memorial event.

They remembered the victims of the attack with candles and banners.

The corona rules were observed, as the police announced.

On the evening of February 19, 2020, the 43-year-old German Tobias R. shot nine people with foreign roots in several places in the Hessian city near Frankfurt, before allegedly killing his mother and then himself. Before that, he had pamphlets and videos with conspiracy theories and racist views posted on the internet.
