Munich (dpa / lby) - Trucks from 7.5 tons may temporarily be on the road in Bavaria on Sundays and public holidays.

The driving ban will be suspended up to and including February 28, said Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) on Friday.

The aim is to support the transport logistics and "to ensure functioning supply chains and goods flows".

Shops and companies should be supplied with goods as best as possible.

According to Herrmann, the background is the current border controls with the Czech Republic and Tyrol.

Delays would arise, for example, if truck drivers did not have the required negative Corona test certificate with them or if the digital entry registration was missing.

Herrmann appealed to the transport companies and drivers to take care of the necessary formalities before crossing the border from the Czech Republic and Tyrol to Bavaria.

The driving ban on Sundays and public holidays applies from midnight to 10 p.m. for a large number of goods to be transported with heavy trucks. In Bavaria, the ban was temporarily suspended in the summer of 2020 in order to maintain the supply chains during the Corona crisis.
