Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The mask requirement will be tightened at schools that will reopen on Monday.

According to School Minister Yvonne Gebauer (FDP), it is mandatory to wear a medical mask on the premises.

Students up to grade 8 could wear an everyday mask if a medical one doesn't fit.

Medical masks are so-called OP masks, FFP2 masks or KN95 masks.

They are already compulsory in supermarkets or in local public transport.

According to Gebauer, the change will be set out in the new corona protection regulation.

On Monday (February 22nd), the primary schools, final classes and special needs schools should initially return to face-to-face classes on a daily basis in an alternating model.
