The alleged assailant is a 38-year-old Sudanese man who was arrested without incident shortly after the incident.

He allegedly stabbed a 46-year-old head of service at this reception center for asylum seekers and refugees.

An employee, very shocked, had to be hospitalized.

According to the first elements of the investigation, this Sudanese had just been refused his refugee status.

He was not lodged in the center but had already stayed there.

The man was known to the police for acts of violence, which even earned him a stay in prison.

On the other hand, he was unknown to the intelligence services for acts of terrorism.

This track is for the moment ruled out.

The mayor of Pau, the former minister François Bayrou, evokes "

a terrible tragedy, all the more shocking as the victim was hired to help these refugees
