Erlangen / Passau (dpa / lby) - Local politicians from Erlangen have joined the Passau anti-Danube song campaign.

At the initiative of the Green parliamentary group in the city council, 42 cross-party committee members requested that the Danube song be abandoned at public festivals in Erlangen.

Student Corinna Schütz, who initiated the campaign in Passau, said on Friday that she was happy about the commitment of other cities.

The Erlangen city council addressed their application to breweries, festival hosts and music organizers.

In future, these should stipulate in contracts with bands that the Danube song in all its variants and other songs with texts that glorify violence may not be played.

"Sexism and the glorification of violence have no place in Erlangen."

The city councils also say that it is not known that the Danube song has been played at the Erlanger Bergkirchweih in recent years.

With an online petition, a Passau group, which initially consisted mainly of students, found more than 36,000 supporters all over Germany last year.

What bothers the group most about the song is what they say is the trivializing representation of a girl's rape.

In a widespread version of the song it says: “I got on with the sleeping woman, Ohohoholalala, she no longer heard the rushing of the Danube, Ohohoholalala” or “My girl, my girl, what are you upset about, Ohohoholalala, for me It was nice and sure for you too, Ohohoholalala ».

Passau's Lord Mayor Jürgen Dupper (SPD) had promised to support the group's cause.

The city of Montabaur in the Westerwald already forbade playing the song in beer tents.
