Berlin / Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - According to the federal and state governments, 1.363 billion euros had flowed out or approved from the “School Digital Pact” by the end of last year.

The figures were announced by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Conference of Ministers of Education of the Länder on Friday.

According to the information from Berlin, 2.6 million euros flowed to Hesse by the end of last year.

Approved but not yet called for Hesse are 36.9 million euros.

From the “immediate equipment program”, 36.6 million euros had been approved for Hessen by the end of the year.

Funds only flow when an investment measure has been completed and the bill is available, it said from ministry circles on Friday.

At the end of January, the Hessian Ministry of Education and Culture reported that applications totaling around 73 million euros had been submitted.

Around ten percent of the funds available have so far been approved.

The digital pact, originally with 5 billion euros from the federal government and 500 million euros from the federal states, was launched in 2019 to set up the digital infrastructure at schools, for example to install school WiFi or to purchase digital boards - so-called smartboards.

The funding program has recently been topped up three times: by 500 million euros to finance IT administrators for schools, 500 million euros to purchase office laptops for teachers and a further 500 million euros to purchase loan equipment for pupils in need to enable them to participate in so-called distance learning in the Corona crisis.
