Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - The defusing of a World War II bomb in Frankfurt planned for Sunday has a significant impact on Deutsche Bahn long-distance traffic.

As the company announced on Friday, from 11 a.m. onwards, a number of trains will no longer stop at Frankfurt Central Station.

There are also train cancellations between Cologne and Frankfurt.

According to the German air traffic control in Langen, however, air traffic at the nearby Frankfurt Airport is not affected.

The ICEs on the route from Essen via Cologne and Limburg to Frankfurt do not run at all.

Alternative trains also stop in Siegburg / Bonn, Montabaur and Limburg-Süd.

The ICE trains from Hamburg or Berlin to Munich and Basel stop in Frankfurt at the Frankfurt-Süd station.

The ICE trains from Amsterdam and Brussels only go to Frankfurt Airport.

The IC 2023 and IC 2024 do not stop at Frankfurt Airport and Mainz Central Station.

The 500-kilogram bomb was found during construction work, and 4,500 people had to leave their homes on Sunday.

In the evacuation area there is also a thermal power station, an underground high-pressure gas line, district heating connections, transformer stations and a police station.
