Bielefeld (AP) - The Bundesliga soccer team Arminia Bielefeld and VfL Wolfsburg remembered the victims with a brief gesture before their Friday evening game on the first anniversary of the racist attack in Hanau.

The captains of the two teams - Fabian Klos and Koen Casteels - showed a sign with the words "Never forget!" In the Bielefeld stadium on Friday evening.

Both clubs also tweeted the names of the victims on Friday.

"These names are more important today than our starting line-up," wrote VfL.

On February 19 last year, the 43-year-old German Tobias R. shot nine people with foreign roots in Hanau before allegedly killing his mother and ultimately himself.

According to the Federal Prosecutor's office, the perpetrator had a deeply racist attitude.
