  • Navarra: A woman is sentenced to two years in prison for collecting her dead mother's pension for 23 years

The brothers

Pedro

and

Isabel Blasco Yusta

have acknowledged having killed their mother and hid her corpse embedded in a closet in order to continue to collect their pension.

So they have confessed this Thursday during the trial, with a popular jury, held at the

Provincial Court of Teruel

and which has barely lasted two hours as there was an agreement between the

Prosecutor's Office

and the defenses in the request for penalties.

The mother,

Angela Yusta

, 88, suffered from Alzheimer's disease, vision loss and serious mobility problems.

Given these circumstances and "the work that gave them", the children decided to end their lives on March 3, 2017 in the family home that the three shared in the Teruel town of

Pozondón

.

The two brothers have admitted that they hid the body to continue collecting their pension, which allowed them to enter 30,755 euros until, in June 2019, the murder was discovered and they were arrested.

Since then they have been in prison.

The prosecutor,

Benito Soriano

, has requested 16 years in prison for Pedro Blasco as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of murder with the aggravating circumstance of kinship and treachery, although he applies the mitigating force of outburst or obstinacy.

And eight years for his sister as an accomplice, because, although he knew his brother's intentions, he did nothing to prevent it.

It also asks, for fraud to

Social Security

by improperly collecting the pension, six months in prison and the obligation to return the 30,755 euros.

During the oral hearing, several Civil Guard agents, who intervened in the case, explained that Pedro Blasco confessed "spontaneously" that he had murdered his mother by placing a pillow on her face until she stopped breathing.

Later, with the help of his sister, he hid the body in a closet.

"I'm going to do it"

To questions from the prosecutor, the son has always limited himself to answering with a brief "yes" in acknowledgment of the facts.

He tried to burn the corpse "because it smelled bad", but gave up when he saw the flames spread.

He has also acknowledged that on the day of the murder the mother had been particularly upset with screaming and continuous calls to her children for help.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the mother's situation provoked the "unthinking" response from her son, who told his sister: "I'm going to do it."

Isabel, 51, has been "sorry" and at various times has not been able to hold back the tears.

At the end of the session and when the court offered him to say what he deemed appropriate, he indicated that "he had nothing to say", although he added: "I have not done anything."

Pedro, 49, has declared that he "always" has respected and will respect the "Spanish judicial system and the security forces" and that he trusts that the sentence imposed on him "is fair."
