Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - The Rhein-Neckar Löwen have reached the round of 16 as group winners in the European League.
The handball Bundesliga team won 31:28 (15:11) against the Slovenian first division team Trimo Trebnje on Thursday and cannot be ousted from first place after the eighth of ten match days.
Philipp Ahouansou was the top scorer in the Mannheimer Arena with eleven goals, thanks to the group victory they have a good starting position for the knockout round and were never in serious danger against Trebnje.
In the first half, goalkeeper Nikolas Katsigiannis stood out, after the 15:11 break Ahouansou made his mark on the game.
