  • The Dunkirk sector is affected by an impressive increase in the number of Covid-19 patients.

  • Among the positive cases identified, many have been infected with the English variant of the coronavirus.

  • The police, also largely affected, nevertheless intensify the control operations.

In Dunkirk, in the North, it is the carnival festivities which should be in full swing at this time.

Instead, it is rather the epidemic of coronavirus in an English suit which is having a great time in the city of Jean Bart.

For five days now, the regional prefect has taken measures to try to stem the "tide" of patients, except that the police are not spared.

Carnival in a submarine, near the British border… We may never know why the English variant of the coronavirus is also present in Dunkirk.

The point is that in this area the epidemic is raging and the virus is not infecting people by the operation of the Holy Spirit.

The prefecture has therefore intensified control operations and "the police are particularly mobilized in this territory to ensure compliance with the health protocol and the curfew", assured the prefect on Thursday.

Hundreds of people fined in Dunkirk and at the border

In Dunkirk, in five days, 158 people were fined "for non-compliance with the curfew, for gathering in public space or even for not wearing a mask in public space", summarizes the representative of the State.

A little further, on the side of the border with Belgium, the police are also very present.

Since Saturday, “2,540 people have been checked and 102 people fined for lack of a Covid test or compelling reason for travel”.

The problem is that the police in the area are not spared by the disease.

In Dunkirk, according to our colleagues from

La Voix du Nord

, around sixty agents have already tested positive for Covid-19.

A hole in the racket impossible to leave as it is, to such an extent that the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) of the North has sent more than a hundred Lille staff as reinforcements, in particular to ensure the control missions .

At the same time, screening operations were launched.

In schools, a campaign of antigenic tests has started.

For the general public, exceptional free and walk-in screenings have been implemented since Thursday and until Friday.

They have already taken place in Bergues, Cappelle-Brouck and Dunkirk, allowing the screening of 870 people.

In Dunkirk, out of 240 people tested, 7 were positive for Covid-19.

On Friday, tests will continue in Dunkirk and Wormhout.
