Mr. Kitamura, the director of the National Security Bureau, talked with U.S. President Sullivan on the phone and exchanged opinions on the situation in Myanmar where the coup d'etat occurred and China's advance into the ocean, and then included Australia and India in both Japan and the United States. We agreed to work closely in the four countries.

Mr. Kitamura, Director General of National Security, and White House Chief of Staff, White House Chief of Staff, met over the phone for about 45 minutes on the morning of the 18th of Japan time.

During this session, they exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar, where the coup d'etat took place, and the situation and future outlook of the detained officials, including State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.

They also shared the view that the security environment around Japan is becoming more serious, such as China enforcing a law permitting the use of weapons by the Maritime Security Action Bureau, and to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific. We agreed to work closely with Japan and the United States in four countries, including Australia and India.
