Bad Ems (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate hospitality industry suffered a drop in sales in 2020 as never before in view of the two corona lockdowns in spring and at the end of the year.

According to preliminary calculations, real revenues, i.e. adjusted for price changes, were 36 percent below the results of the previous year, as the State Statistical Office in Bad Ems announced on Thursday.

In nominal terms, i.e. measured in current prices, the slump was 34 percent.

The number of employees in the hospitality industry fell by 15 percent in 2020 compared to 2019.

Almost every fifth part-time employee has lost their job.

According to the State Statistical Office, however, the number of full-time employees only fell by six percent.

The corona-related restrictions in the hospitality industry since the beginning of November caused real sales to plummet again in December: the restaurateurs reported 77 percent less sales than in December 2019. The number of employees in the hospitality industry was 32 percent below the value in the last month of 2020 located in December 2019.
