Dortmund (dpa) - The German Athletics Association wants to travel to the European Indoor Championships from March 4th to 7th in Torun / Poland with around 50 participants.

This said head coach Annett Stein at an online press conference of the DLV on Thursday.

In view of the corona situation, some EM standards even apply from 2019. However, the German championships this weekend in Dortmund are a qualification opportunity for many athletes.

"This conclusion of the indoor season in Torun is very important with a view to the Olympics," said Stein.

"We want to use the German championships to get comparable performance and to nominate the strongest team for the EM."

In the Rudolf-Körnig-Halle - under strict hygiene requirements - around 250 athletes compete, only about half as many as usual. These include aces like Malaika Mihambo, Christina Schwanitz, Gesa Krause and David Storl.

60-meter record holder Julian Reus from Erfurt canceled because of weakness.

All people in the hall must do a rapid corona test beforehand;

Spectators are not allowed - as currently required in the pandemic.
