Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The temperature drops below the Astrazeneca vaccine doses in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are, according to the Ministry of Health, due to incorrect handling of the transport boxes.

The Ministry of Health referred in a message on Thursday to information from the transporter.

"Our transport partner immediately initiated appropriate measures to rule out such a situation in the future," it said.

According to the ministry, around 2,200 people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine so far.

The vaccination doses come from the deliveries that have so far reached the country.

In addition to the delivery of 8,400 cans on February 15, another batch of 6,000 cans from February 11 may have been transported or stored too cool, it said.

All those involved are currently working on clarifying the matter.

The vaccination with doses from these batches will continue to be suspended as a precaution in coordination with the vaccination centers.

Employees at a vaccination center in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district had previously noticed that the vaccine was too cold.

It had a temperature of below zero degrees, according to the ministry, a range between plus two and plus eight degrees is permitted.

Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) had appealed to those who had already been vaccinated: "If you feel unwell, you should go to the nearest doctor as a precaution."
