Auckland / New Zealand (dpa / lno) - The tug-of-war over the continuation of the challenger finals for the America's Cup has been decided.

The duel for the Prada Cup between Italy and Great Britain continues on February 20 with a score of 4-0 for Patrizio Bertelli's Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team.

Previously, new corona cases in Auckland and the Level 3 lockdown ordered by the New Zealand government had interrupted and postponed the races originally scheduled for February 18.

As a result, there was a dispute between the organizers of the series, America's Cup Event Ltd.

(ACE), and the Italian challengers over the date for the continuation.

Supported by Sir Ben Ainslie's previous Inos Team UK, the organizers would have liked to postpone the continuation of the final for another week in order to provide viewers, sponsors and media coverage with better conditions than in the now applicable Lockdown-2 status.

The Italians, on the other hand, want to use their momentum to bring the final to an end as quickly as possible and to give the British as little time as possible to make a comeback.

In a press release from the Italians it was said: "The weather conditions over the next few days are ideal to host top-level races."

The forecast for the weekend is lighter winds at the lower limit of what is allowed, with which the British have so far been more difficult than the leading Italians.

The team that booked seven wins first will challenge New Zealand in the America's Cup.

This will start on March 6th.

For the first time in the 170-year history of the America's Cup, the Challenger Final is a purely European affair.
