The discoveries are linked.

Two weeks after a 500 kg bomb was unearthed on the site of the future CHU, on the island of Nantes, a new explosive device was found by workers in the same sector this Thursday morning, shortly before 11 a.m. .

Immediately, a security perimeter was put in place and car traffic was diverted.

As with the first, which dated from World War II, the defusing took place quickly and smoothly, police said.

The American bomb this time weighed 226 kg, indicates the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique.

Artificers and police left the scene around noon.

Bombed area

This sector of Nantes had been bombed several times during the Second World War because of the proximity of the port facilities.

In September 2006, an American 250 kg bomb was discovered on the Tourville quay, near the CHU.

Its defusing required the evacuation of nearly 20,000 people on Sunday.

In June 2013, another US bomb of 500 kg, discovered on Boulevard du Tertre, west of Nantes, had been neutralized.

Nearly 4,000 people had been evacuated.
