Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The number of deaths in old people's and nursing homes in Baden-Württemberg who died of or with Covid-19 is significantly lower than in many other federal states.

So far, 2846 people in the country have been reported to have died in outbreaks in the facilities, said Minister of Social Affairs Manne Lucha (Greens) on Thursday in Stuttgart.

A total of 7566 people (as of February 10) have died in the country from or with the disease.

The proportion of people who died in outbreaks in the homes is 37.6 percent.

In Brandenburg, the rate was 47.8 percent, as Lucha announced to the conference of health ministers, citing a country survey.

In Berlin, for example, it is 57 percent, in Schleswig-Holstein 71 percent, in Rhineland-Palatinate 32.8 percent and in Lower Saxony 37.6 percent.

"To draw the conclusion from the number of deaths and the proportion of nursing home residents that protective measures would have been negligently neglected is not acceptable and also represents a disdain for the nursing staff and the precautionary measures of the facilities."

Around 90 percent of the people who died as a result of the disease in Germany are 70 years or older.

The Greens politician saw no failures in protecting the facilities from the corona virus.

The topic has the highest priority.

He referred to the meanwhile regular tests for nursing staff and residents as well as visitors and the FFP2 mask requirement.

The special session of the committee was requested by the opposition FDP and SPD.

The reason for this is the high number of deaths in the facilities.

The SPD politician Sabine Wölfle accused Lucha of appeasing.

"The Minister of Social Affairs has not properly informed the public about the dramatic conditions in the homes."

His crisis management to protect nursing homes is far too careless.

"He introduced mandatory testing for visitors weeks too late, vaccinated the nursing home residents far too slowly compared to other federal states, and delivered protective masks that he now has to collect again."

The FDP MP Jochen Haussmann said that one had only ever heard from Minister Lucha appeasements about how well everything was supposedly going.

"But if you look closely, the beautiful glow gets considerable scratches."

Be it the vaccination strategy, the FFP2 masks or the clear and transparent presentation of deaths in nursing homes.
