Krefeld (dpa) - moderator and physician Eckart von Hirschhausen (“Hirschhausen's Quiz of People”) is recognized as a model cyclist.
The 53-year-old will receive the “Most Bicycle-Friendly Personality 2021” award, as the award organizers announced in Krefeld on Wednesday.
"He is a role model for many people, at the same time he is a motivator for a healthy way of life, is committed to a better climate and is fully behind the environmentally friendly means of transport - the bicycle," was the explanation given.
Von Hirschhausen himself used the honor for a climate appeal: "Instead of using fossil fuel in the tank, let's burn the love handles off our hips."
His conclusion: "Where there's a will, there's a bike path!"
The German Bicycle Prize is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Transport and the working group for pedestrian and bicycle-friendly cities in North Rhine-Westphalia (AGFS).
The “most bicycle-friendly personality” has been part of the competition since 2003.
The award ceremony is to take place digitally on April 27th.
