At 54,

Mike Tyson

lives, among other businesses, from advertising.

Like the one you just shared a few hours ago on your Instagram profile.

A commercial in which the former boxing champion plays himself while

announcing the app of a French bank.

Gone are those years in which the American earned millions on the ring with each of the victories he achieved.

Because between August 1987 and February 1990, the

Tyson

(54) looked really

unbeatable

.

He had won all three world belts and was the champion of the World Boxing Council, the World Association of the discipline and also the International Federation.

Until one day 31 years ago, Japan witnessed one of

its biggest falls.

Tyson was measured in Tokyo against compatriot

James Douglas

and in a play that no one saw coming, he lost his WBA, WBC and IBF titles.

The reason?

He had not paid any attention to the fight, because he was too concerned about "having sex", according to Tyson himself.

On February 11, 1990, champion laureate Mike Tyson faced "unknown" boxer Buster Douglas, in

a fight that was supposed to be simple

for the crowd favorite.

However, Douglas' good hooks and agile punches

knocked out Tyson

and led Ohio's to be the unexpected winner.

"What Buster Douglas just did makes Cinderella seem like a sad story," said one of the HBO commentators, after witnessing one of the most shocking fights in sports history.

And, before facing Douglas, Tyson has exactly

37 consecutive victories

...

According to the media at the time, Douglas couldn't believe his luck.

After his triumph, he spoke with some journalists and assured that he

was surprised

by his abilities, even though it

only took "four terrible blows"

to knock out Tyson.

But the former king of the ring was not calm with his defeat and claimed that, in one of the blows, Douglas took more time than regulation to compose himself, which could have delegitimized the results.

But even though Tyson and his promoter tried, neither of them managed to snatch the victory from Buster.

"It was all very unpleasant, they didn't let me enjoy it," Douglas told ESPN a couple of years later.

Despite this, Tyson decided to speak again on the subject in 2013, and this time, he did not blame Douglas for his defeat, but himself,

for living a life of excess.

"On January 8, 1990, I got on a plane to fly to Tokyo, kicking and screaming. I didn't want to fight. All I was interested in then was

partying and having sex with women.

I didn't see Douglas as a big challenge. Nor I even bothered to watch any of his fights on video, "he wrote, in addition to providing details about his

dizzying sexual routine,

which took up much of his fight preparation.

"The day before, I was with two women at the same time and then two more girls, one at a time, the night before," he wrote.

According to his own statements, in 1990 Tyson was completely

astray

and had trouble keeping his focus on his career.

"I gave everyone money, I partied with everyone and I fucked their mothers, their sisters and their cousins.

Orgies. It was crazy.

I was so sick and had no idea how sick I was. He bought the girls a lot of cars too, "the boxer acknowledged on YouTube last year.

An opinion backed by

his former manager Rory Holloway,

who has commented, on numerous occasions, that he believes Tyson's losses were produced solely "by his weakness for women."

As the

New York Post

has confirmed

, Tyson's sexual relationships during that time were always consensual.

Except in July 1991, when a candidate for beauty queen - named Desiree Washington

- accused him of raping her at a hotel

in Indianapolis.

Due to the complaint, Tyson was convicted of rape and sentenced to

six years in prison,

which eventually turned into just three winters.

And what did the boxer do during his time in jail?

Basically the same thing he did when he was away: having sex in a rampant way.

"I had so much sex that I was too tired to go to the gym or train. I

just stayed in my cell," he

said a couple of years ago, without much shame.

But, after declaring bankruptcy in 2003. Tyson assured that he had begun to change and modify "the lack of control" that was his life,

"as a result of drinking, food and sex."

In fact, in 2014, he revealed to

The Guardian

that he had come to the conclusion that the basis of his problems was his shameless nature.

"At one point I said 'God, help me'. I can't do anything else. Because I look back at the life I once had, and I had moral problems.

I had no morals," he

said.

Thus, over the past few years, Tyson has shown that he is feeling better and that he is no longer the addict he used to be.

"Still I have a lot of work to do. I have to

try to love myself," he

wrote in 2013, implying that he is focused on the future and not on the past full of disappointments and sorrows.
