The wife of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un appeared for the first time in public over a year ago, as reported by official media yesterday, ending an absence that some attributed to the Corona virus, and others to a possible pregnancy.

She is alongside her sister-in-law Kim Yoo Jong, one of the more visible women in the largely still male, isolated regime.

Ri Sol-ju, who is estimated to be in her thirties, accompanied her husband to a concert in memory of the birth of the current leader's father and predecessor, Kim Jong Il.

And the birth anniversary of the second leader of the Kim dynasty, known as “the day of the shining star,” one of the most prominent holidays in North Korea.

The official Rodong Sinmun newspaper published pictures of the couple smiling and applauding the artists who were performing at the Mansudai Art Theater in Pyongyang.

The official North Korean News Agency reported that "when the Secretary-General entered the stage with his wife, Ri Sol-ju, to the sound of the reception music, all of the attendees applauded" in welcome.

In the photos that were published, none of those present wore a muzzle.

Ri Sol-ju has not appeared in public since January 2020 when she participated in a party related to the Lunar New Year.

Her absence raised many speculations about her health, as some people wondered whether she was isolated to protect herself from the Corona virus, or whether she was pregnant.

The couple has three children.

Ri Sol Jo is a former successful singer, and she appeared publicly alongside Kim in 2012.

In the photos that were posted, none of the attendees wore a muzzle.
