The first emergency water supply for the Datoxia Project

"Quenching thirst" for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

Beijing, February 17 (Reporter Wang Hao) At 8 o'clock on February 15, according to the 2020-2021 dry season water dispatch notice No. 3 of the Pearl River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, the first emergency water diversion task of the Datengxia Water Conservancy Project was successfully completed.

The emergency water transfer lasted for 5 days, and a total of nearly 240 million cubic meters of water was supplied downstream, which is equivalent to the deployment of 17 West Lake water. It effectively suppressed the salt tide upstream of the estuary and delivered it to the people of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau during the Spring Festival, such as Macau and Zhuhai. Went to rest assured water.

Since November 2020, the rainfall in the Pearl River Basin has been the least in the past 60 years. Among them, the main rivers such as Xijiang and Beijiang have received 40 to 70% less water.

The continuous low water level of rivers has caused the salt tide of the estuary to go backwards. Important cities such as Zhuhai and Zhongshan have suffered a greater impact on water intake. Macau's water use is also facing severe threats.

In order to ensure the water safety of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area during the Spring Festival, the Pearl River Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources launched the water dispatch during the dry season on February 10, and decided to use the Datangxia Water Conservancy Project as the main water source for this water dispatch. The outbound flow shall be controlled at an average daily rate of not less than 1,800 cubic meters per second.
