Stralsund / Rostock (dpa / mv) - Several hundred shipyard workers demonstrated on Wednesday in Stralsund and Warnemünde for the preservation of the sites and their jobs.

In Stralsund, the demonstration began in front of the factory gates with a car parade, in which, according to observers, around 200 cars took part.

From there it went to the market square of the Hanseatic city.

The motto of the demo was "Stralsund needs the shipyard".

The IG Metall managing director of Stralsund-Neubrandenburg, Guido Fröschke, demanded that the site should be retained as a complete shipyard and not just as a construction site.

In Warnemünde, around 500, significantly more shipyard workers gathered than the 150 participants who were registered under corona protection conditions.

As a police spokeswoman said, IG Metall had rejected the assembly authority's proposal to split the demonstration into several individual, staggered events with a maximum of 150 participants.

Thereupon those involved decided to break up the demonstration.
