The corona pandemic has claimed more than 12,000 lives in Sweden and in several parts of the country the spread of infection is now increasing at a high rate.

At the same time, many regions are waiting in line for delayed vaccine deliveries.

In SVT's "My truth", the Left Party's party leader Nooshi Dadgostar directs harsh criticism at the Swedish corona strategy.

- The government had a mission, and that was to protect the elderly.

Then you need to go in with huge efforts in the elderly care that we knew had very big shortcomings, but the government did not. There was a surprising indifference to the efforts in the elderly care last year, she says in the program.

Refers to the Corona Commission's report

Dadgostar mentions, among other things, the Corona Commission's first partial report on elderly care during the pandemic.

The evaluation, presented in December last year, shows that the Commission's overall assessment is that the strategy to protect the elderly has failed.

- The staff in elderly care had to handle the crisis themselves, without the help of the government. Stefan Löfven himself said that the authorities had no idea what it looked like in elderly care.

I do not think it is reasonable for the government when they still make the decision to protect the elderly, she says.

"A failure"

Now she demands that the government step forward and take responsibility.

- Remember that there are over 12,000 people who have died in this pandemic.

It's not a good grade, it's a failure.

The government needs to take responsibility for what they have done, she says and continues:

- We are in an acute phase of infection spread, then the government must go in and make efforts.

The number of hourly employees in elderly care must be reduced, vaccinations must be phased out, staffing must be increased and more training efforts must be made.
