  Public information shows that Li Quangui was from Ningjin County, Hebei Province. He joined the Eighth Route Army in September 1938 and joined the Party in the same year.

He used to be the correspondent of the 2nd Regiment of the 385 Brigade of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army, the platoon commander and deputy company commander of the 14th Regiment, the company commander of the 769th Regiment, the deputy battalion commander and the battalion commander of the 19th Regiment of the 3rd Vertical and 7th Brigade of the Central Field, and the staff of the 31st Regiment of the 11th Army of the Second Field long.

  After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Li Quangui served as Chief of Staff of the 93rd Regiment of the 31st Division of the 12th Army, the Commander of the 92nd Regiment, the Commander of the 12th Army Tank Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment, the Director of the Armored Division of the 12th Army, the Chief of Staff and the Deputy Commander of the 31st Division of the 12th Army.   Li Quangui was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1955, and was promoted to colonel in 1961. He was awarded the Third Class of Independence and Freedom Medal, the Third Class of Liberation Medal, and the Independent Meritorious Medal in 1988.
