Sevilla (AP) - Borussia Dortmund wants to dispel the Bundesliga frustration with success in the Champions League.

In the round of 16 first leg on Wednesday (9 p.m. / DAZN) at Sevilla FC, however, there is a tricky task.

The announcement by soccer teacher Marco Rose two days earlier that he would be moving from Mönchengladbach to Dortmund next summer pushed the preparation for the game into the background.

INITIAL SITUATION: BVB are group winners in the round of 16 against Sevilla and can therefore play the second leg at home on March 9th.

After two knockouts in this round against the eventual finalists Paris (2020) and Tottenham (2019), the Revierclub could make the leap into the quarter-finals for the first time since 2017.

The current shape curve, however, speaks against it.

There was only one win in the last six Bundesliga games.

“If we manage to get our performance onto the pitch consistently for 180 minutes or more, then I see a good chance of making it to the next lap.

That is our clear goal, ”said coach Edin Terzic.

STAFF: Thomas Delaney's assignment is open.

Because he and his wife are expecting the birth of their first child, the last strong midfielder was missing at the departure and is supposed to come.

Right back Thomas Meunier, whose knee problems have subsided, is back in the squad.

Terzic, on the other hand, has to do without goalkeeper Roman Bürki, attacker Thorgan Hazard and defender Dan-Axel Zagadou.

“Everyone has taken a step forward in rehab and will be starting training again this week,” announced Terzic.

OPPONENTS: Seville is in top form.

Most recently there were nine wins in a row.

In addition, the team has been clean for 709 minutes and could improve the club record from the 2008/09 season (780 minutes).

Because the fourth place from Spain has won the UEFA Cup and Europa League six times in the past 15 years, he is considered a specialist in knockout games.

Central defender Jules Koundé in particular is highly regarded.

He is calm about the duel with BVB striker Erling Haaland.

“I'll adjust to him, but not too much.

We will concentrate on realizing our own game idea, ”he told the“ kicker ”.

BALANCE: So far there have been two competitive games between the two clubs.

In the group stage of the 2010/11 Europa League, Sevilla secured second place with a 1-0 win in Dortmund and a 2-2 win at home, knocking BVB out of the competition.

Borussia’s performance in guest appearances in Spain is not very encouraging: In the last 16 games there was only one win in 1996 at Atlético Madrid.

But: In eight knockout matches with Spanish clubs, BVB was able to prevail five times.

EXCITING: Just one day before the flight to Seville, coach Marco Rose's move from Mönchengladbach to Dortmund next summer became known.

Much will depend on whether Terzic has enough influence on the team as the transition coach between Lucien Favre and Rose.

The 38-year-old reacted calmly to speculation that BVB consultant Matthias Sammer could replace him by the summer because of the recent downturn: “There is an exchange.

He is part of the club.

This exchange is very productive - in both directions.

The big advantage: Matthias Sammer doesn't watch every training session and has a view from outside.

You are always reflected there. "
