Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Ferris wheel in the Spreepark is expected to be preserved for Berliners.

The bike, which was built in 1989, can be renovated and will turn again in the future, said the state-owned Grün Berlin GmbH, which manages the park, on Wednesday.

Since the beginning of January, the gondolas of the ailing ride had been dismantled and their condition checked - now it is clear that the wheel has a future: “Both the material and the construction at the time are of such good quality that the Ferris wheel would have stood still for years survived unusually well, ”said managing director Christoph Schmidt.

Further tests are due until the end of March, after which the reconstruction of the attraction will be advertised throughout Europe.

Grün Berlin plans to reopen the Spreepark from 2022.

Two years later, when the core area is opened, the Ferris wheel is set to turn again.

The renovation costs are expected to be around four million euros.
