Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The expansion of the cell phone masts in Hessen continues.

Digital Minister Kristina Sinemus (CDU) announced at the request of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden that 313 cell phone masts had been built in the country by the end of 2020 and 4270 had been modernized.

This means that the number of completed measures from the mobile radio pact has more than doubled compared to the previous year.

"We were the first federal state in Hesse to adapt the state building regulations in order to facilitate expansion and simplify the search for a location," explained the digital minister.

"In addition, with our new mobile communications funding program, we are making available 50 million euros for up to 300 additional masts in Hesse, from which rural areas in particular will benefit."

The response to the program so far has been positive.

In autumn 2018, Hessen signed a mobile communications pact with Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica Deutschland.

It was announced that 800 new cell phone sites would be set up in the following years and 4000 systems would be modernized that would have at least 4G speed.
