Potsdam (dpa / bb) - As in the previous year, the knowledge of the Brandenburg students is to be checked after the month-long lockdown with learning status surveys.

"The pupils were challenged to control their learning process themselves, and that depends on how well it succeeded," said Education Minister Britta Ernst (SPD) on Wednesday on the RBB's information radio.

The learning progress surveys should be used to check what support the students might need.

"And last year it was good to do that after the summer vacation, because we then have a precise overview when the school year starts," said the minister.

Knowledge in the core subjects German, mathematics and a foreign language should be tested.

"This is an instrument that we have been using for many years in certain years - 1, 3, 5 supplemented by 7," said Ernst.

The Senate Department for Education in Berlin has similar plans: "At the beginning of the 2020/21 school year, our schools recorded the learning levels of all students in order to draw conclusions for further lessons and for individual support," said the spokesman for the school administration Martin Klesmann, on Wednesday.

"Berlin will proceed in a similar way this year after the summer vacation."
