Stuttgart.

The Ministry of Tourism told the dpa that there would be more than 15 million euros available to replace lost sales and advertising.

15 applications with a volume of around 9 million euros had also been approved by Tuesday evening.

The funding pot is aimed at losses in the period from March to September 2020.

For the time after that, the federal government has promised help.

"Baden-Württemberg is the number one spa region in Germany," said Tourism Minister Guido Wolf (CDU).

In 2019, almost a quarter of the overnight stays in the country were spent in spas and health resorts.

"Currently, numerous companies have liquidity problems as a result of the lost and continued drop in sales."

The spas are particularly troubled by the fact that many visitors from abroad stayed away in 2020, as Fritz Link, President of the Baden-Württemberg Spa Association, explained.

"Switzerland and France in particular are important markets for us."

The guests from there want to be won over to the wellness hotels and thermal baths in the country again after the corona pandemic.
