Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) has rejected the CDU opposition's criticism of the state government's corona vaccination strategy.

"It's hard to understand why the CDU is actually opening such a strange fight," said Dreyer at the SPD's online event on Ash Wednesday in Mainz.

Rhineland-Palatinate is in first place among the federal states for second vaccinations and also in the top group for first vaccinations.

"We're doing exactly the right thing."

CDU top candidate Christian Baldauf had accused the state government of a "dangerous vaccination strategy" and questioned the safety of the second vaccination.

The situation of cultural workers in Corona times was the focus of Dreyer's meeting with the chief altar boy of the Mainz Carnival, Andreas Schmitt ("Mainz remains Mainz"), and the Mayor of Mainz Michael Ebling (SPD) 25 days before the state elections.

"We as citizens miss a lot," said Dreyer.

"Art and culture give us a lot and would have a lot to say to us in a crisis like Corona."

She hoped that the bridging aid from the federal government would finally reach the artists and, together with the state program, have an effect.

Dreyer called the Rhineland showcase for culture, in which artists exhibited online what they had created, a “ray of hope”.

Culture will certainly make more use of some digital formats in the future, said the Prime Minister.

A large part of the population is now traveling digitally.
