Potsdam (dpa / bb) - In Brandenburg, doctors should also be able to offer corona vaccinations in their practices or during home visits.

The state government wants to start model projects with family doctors.

This is a result of the Brandenburg «vaccination summit» on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) said in a statement from the State Chancellery: "Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn must update the regulation - as he announced - quickly, because we only get broad coverage if the family doctors are involved."

So far, the medical practices are not allowed to offer corona vaccinations.

Woidke continued: “After the nationwide bottlenecks and annoyances, we will probably find ourselves in a much better situation from mid-March.

For that we need considerably more vaccination capacities. "

In addition to the existing eleven vaccination centers - as announced - further centers or regional vaccination centers would be set up in seven districts: Prignitz, Havelland, Märkisch-Oderland, Potsdam-Mittelmark, Oder-Spree, Oberspreewald-Lausitz and Spree-Neiße.

In order to make a vaccination offer to all Brandenburg citizens who are ready to be vaccinated by the end of summer 2021, around three million doses would have to be vaccinated in the second and third quarters.

The goal is at least 530,000 vaccinations per month in the second and third quarters, the statement said.

So far, 142,953 people in the state have received vaccinations against the corona virus.
