Potsdam (dpa / bb) - According to the Ministry of Health, the state of Brandenburg failed to achieve its goal of offering all residents of old people's and nursing homes a vaccination offer by mid-February.

In 277 of the 341 inpatient nursing homes, initial vaccinations have taken place so far, as Ministry spokesman Gabriel Hesse announced on Wednesday upon request.

Due to the delivery delays and the reduction in deliveries by the manufacturer Biontech / Pfizer in mid-January, Brandenburg was slowed down during vaccination, the spokesman stated.

In addition, there is the inhibiting factor that the Astrazeneca vaccine is only recommended by the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) for people under 65 years of age.

During their deliberations on January 5, the federal and state governments set the goal of offering all residents of inpatient care facilities a vaccination offer by mid-February at the latest.

At the time, this goal certainly seemed ambitious, but achievable, said Hesse.

Nevertheless, there is good news for Brandenburg: All inpatient nursing homes in the state have received vaccination appointments.

For some facilities, according to Hesse, initial vaccinations will now take place in the coming week, and other nursing homes will be in the next week.

Previously, second vaccination appointments had to be rescheduled for first vaccinations.

The residents' willingness to vaccinate is very high, the spokesman reported.

Although this is encouraging, it also means that the 33 mobile vaccination teams that are deployed across the country have to plan more time to carry out the vaccinations in the facilities.
