Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - With a block of ice and flamethrowers, climate protection activists at the European Central Bank (ECB) drew attention to the climate crisis on Tuesday.

The members of the Koala collective, a Frankfurt group of climate activists, called on the ECB to change course in order to meet the goals of the Paris climate agreement.

The ice block that was melted during the protest represented the consequences of global warming and the effects of climate change.

In an open letter, the climate activists pointed out that more than half of the corporate bonds purchased by the ECB are in sectors that contribute to the climate crisis with their CO2 emissions.

Even when refinancing and supervising the banking sector, climate protection goals and climate risks are not taken into account.

The climate activists warned that the ECB could use its control and investment power to drive ecological change.
