After the 21st place won on Tuesday by the French Clément Giraud (Compagnie du lit-Jiliti), the Briton Miranda Merron (Campagne de France), expected Wednesday evening, will be the next to cross the finish line of the Vendée Globe.

Giraud completed his round-the-world tour on Tuesday morning in 99 days, 20 hours and eight minutes, just a few hours before the 100-day mark, his "hidden goal" that he had set himself to complete his journey.

The Vendée Globe was won on January 28 by Frenchman Yannick Bestaven (Maître Coq IV), in just over 80 days.

Briton Merron, 310.6 miles (575 km) from Les Sables d'Olonne on Tuesday in the 5:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. GMT) standings, should be the 22nd to cross the line and the third woman after Clarisse Cremer (Banque Populaire X) who finished in 12th position and the other Briton Pip Hare (Medallia), in 19th place.

"I must not hang around here, I'm super focused, I don't have time to think about the finish," the Briton confided on Tuesday, faced with maritime traffic and a depression coming from the west.

The French Manuel Cousin (Groupe Sétin) pointed Tuesday evening at about 500 nm from the Briton.

In total, 21 boats have already crossed the finish line.

There are four left in the race.
