Hamburg (dpa) - With the resignation of the entire presidium, the power struggle in Hamburger SV eV has taken a new turn.

In a joint letter to the over 87,000 members, President Marcell Jansen and his deputies, Thomas Schulz and Moritz Schaefer, who had fallen out with him, declared their surprising step at the time.

«Dear members, dear HSVers, after very intensive and goal-oriented discussions in the past few days, we as the Presidium have jointly decided to resign from our Presidium offices with immediate effect and thus no longer relate the last differences of opinion in the Presidium to a topic within our association do », it said in the letter.

A new management body should then be elected at the next ordinary general meeting in summer.

Until then, the managing director Kumar Tschana and Michael Papenfuß will lead the club on an interim basis.

A dispute has been smoldering between President Jansen on the one hand and his Vice-Presidents Schulz and Schaefer on the other for months.

Among other things, it was about the candidates for the supervisory board of the football club of the league leaders of the 2nd Bundesliga and about the possible sale of further shares.

Most recently, the trio could not even agree on a date for an extraordinary general meeting until Tuesday last week.

The meeting should be about the vote against Vice Schulz.

This was brought in by the HSV Honorary Council, supported by all other bodies of the club.

The honorary council had justified the request to vote out, which was unique in HSV history, on January 19, saying that Schulz's actions were no longer acceptable and that the trust of all committees in him had been lost.

It was not more specific in the application.

Schulz had rejected the allegations in a Facebook post a day later.

With the withdrawal of the Presidium that has now taken place, the extraordinary general assembly is no longer applicable.

Jansen, who has been in office since January 2019, enjoys the backing of all HSV committees and also from investor Klaus-Michael Kühne.

Schulz and Schaefer had moved into the Presidium as members of Bernd Hoffmann's team.

The 58-year-old Hoffmann was initially elected as President at the beginning of 2018, then in May 2018, initially on an interim basis and finally in September 2018, he was appointed CEO of the Fußball-AG by the Supervisory Board.

He resigned from his position as president.

In March 2020, the Supervisory Board decided with a 5-2 vote to put Hoffmann on leave.

As a member of the supervisory board, Jansen had also voted in favor of Hoffmann's removal from office.

His friends Schulz and Max-Arnold Köttgen voted against it and resigned from the committee.

By June 30, the supervisory board must be increased from five to seven people.

Despite his resignation as president, Jansen will remain on the supervisory board for the time being.

Schulz and Schaefer had been accused of wanting to overturn the situation in the control committee, which would also have consequences for sports director Jonas Boldt and finance director Frank Wettstein.
