Melbourne (AP) - Serena Williams, number one in tennis for many years, has moved into the semi-finals of the Australian Open and thus still has the chance of her 24th title in a Grand Slam tournament.
The 39-year-old American defeated Simona Halep from Romania, second in the world rankings, 6: 3, 6: 3.
In the semifinals on February 18, Serena Williams will meet Naomi Osaka from Japan.
The Melbourne winner from 2019 prevailed 6: 2, 6: 2 against Hsieh Su-Wei from Taiwan.
Serena Williams last won a Grand Slam tournament in Australia in 2017 and has been chasing the all-time record for Margaret Court of Australia since then.
