The deputies adopted the bill against “separatism” at first reading, after two weeks of tense and sometimes heated debates.

The text, voted by a large majority of the Assembly, will be examined by the Senate from March 30.

The National Assembly widely adopted the bill against Islamist "separatism" at first reading Tuesday by a solemn vote, the end of two weeks of debates during which the oppositions criticized a text deemed too weak or irrelevant. Wanted by Emmanuel Macron and presented as one of the royal markers of the five-year term, the bill "confirming respect for the principles of the Republic" was adopted by 347 votes in favor, 151 votes against and 65 abstentions, before its consideration in the Senate from March 30.
