Bochum (dpa / lnw) - A senior citizen died on Tuesday in an apartment fire in Bochum.
The fire brigade had been called because thick smoke had been reported from the apartment on the first floor.
The fire was quickly under control, but the resident died from injuries caused by the fire, the fire department said.
Two other people - a helper who had entered the smoky stairwell and the resident of the attic apartment - came to a hospital as a precaution because they had inhaled smoke.
The police have started investigations into the still unknown cause of the fire.
