February 16, 2021 A strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook Port Vila, the capital of the Vanuatu archipelago in the Pacific Ocean.

According to the American Geophysical Institute (USGS), the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth (10 km) 90 km west of Port Vila.

No tsunami warnings were issued.

The quake was followed by two aftershocks of magnitude 5.5 and 5.7, without any damage to persons or property.

Last week an even stronger earthquake, of magnitude 7.7, struck the region triggering a tsunami warning but the wave did not exceed 30 centimeters.
