Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The seven-day incidence of corona infections in Rhineland-Palatinate fell to 45.3 on Tuesday.

According to data from the State Health Office, this is the lowest value since October 21 of last year.

The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days was 57.6 a week ago and 73.8 two weeks ago.

The health authorities registered 262 new corona infections on Tuesday.

The number of people who died from or with Covid-19 rose by 21 to 2926 (as of 2:10 p.m.).

6791 people in the country are currently infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

This is the lowest level since October 28, 2020. In the currently infected people, a DNA analysis revealed a mutated virus in 408 cases.

The proportion of such variants is 6.0 percent.

According to the latest data, the most new infections per inhabitant are in the Birkenfeld district with 103.8.

This is followed by the district of Cochem-Zell (94.5) and the district of Bitburg-Prüm (84.8) - in Bitburg-Prüm, the proportion of Sars-CoV-2 variants in the total number of currently infected people is 25.5 percent .

Of the 36 districts and urban districts, 20 are below the incidence threshold of 50; the value is lowest in Zweibrücken with 8.8.

The pandemic began in Rhineland-Palatinate at the end of February 2020 with a positive test in Koblenz.
