Dresden (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, the number of craft businesses has only decreased slightly despite the Corona crisis.

As the Saxon Crafts Day announced on Monday, around 56,500 craft businesses were listed in the Free State at the end of 2020.

Around 3748 new registrations were compared to 3909 company cancellations last year - a decrease of 125. Handwerkstag President Roland Ermer, however, warned against jumping to conclusions: “Nobody currently knows what will happen if state Corona aid no longer takes effect and the currently suspended one The obligation to file for insolvency applies again. "

In most cases, according to the craft day, the craftsmen canceled their business for reasons of age or because they could not find a successor.

Especially in rural areas such as the Ore Mountains, Central Saxony or Upper Lusatia, the structural change is causing problems for companies, it said.

In addition, the number of trades requiring a license - i.e. those that can only be practiced with a master craftsman's certificate - continues to decline.

On the other hand, more registrations than de-registrations were registered by trades without authorization.

In total, more than 300,000 people are employed in the craft sector in Saxony.
